This was the perfect cake for a winter wedding, classic black & white! This is a 3-tiered fondant cake. The bottom and top tiers are round and the center tier is a hexagon. Each layer has black ribbon at the bottom and hand-piped black scrolls. The bride provided black & white silk flowers that put the finishing touches on this cake. The flavor was almond with raspberry.

I did a large order of cupcakes for a wedding in September and I found the photos just the other day. I couldn't pass up posting them because cupcakes are my favorite and these flavor combinations were SO yummy ! ! ! !

They used my 6-tier cupcake stand to display these yummy cupcakes and a 6" fondant cake on top (not pictured) to cut for pictures.

Dark chocolate cupcakes filled with chocolate ganache and peanut butter frosting. Topped with a peanut butter cup.

Coconut Cupcakes filled with a coconut cream and topped with coconut frosting and toasted coconut.

Almond Cupcakes filled with fresh raspberry preserves and topped with raspberry buttercream and edible sugar pearls.

This cake was made for Jaycee, a huge Boise State fan!!! The cake has the Bronco's logo on the front and glittery stars on wire. The flavor was chocolate with cookies and cream.

Ivory Cake with Brush Embroidery

I sat down with the bride and groom and started from scratch to create this cake for their beautiful wedding. They wanted something with a vintage flair, but also somewhat traditional. This is an ivory fondant wedding cake. The bottom tier has brush embroidery (which is one of my favorite techniques). There is a middle separator tier with pearls. The top tier has white rolled ribbon flowers. The topper was provided by the bride & groom and went perfect with the cake! The flavors were chocolate with vanilla pastry cream & almond with strawberry preserves.

This 4-tier wedding cake has to be one of my favorites! The entire thing is hand-piped and took a lot of time, but was well worth it. The bride provided a picture of the cake that she wanted and I did my best to re-create it. She called later to tell me that they really loved the cake and got lots of compliments at the wedding. The flavor was vanilla with vanilla.

Turquoise topsy turvy with black-tipped roses

The couple who ordered this cake are fun and easy going and wanted something to reflect their style for their wedding. They didn't want the "traditional" wedding cake. Their colors were white, turquoise and black. We decided to incorporate the black in the roses. I tipped the large white roses with black and then painted the small roses & buds entirely black. They turned out perfect! The flavor was lemon with vanilla.

Whoopie Pies

These are SOOO yummy! I've always wanted to make them and finally did this weekend. These are Whoopie Pies - vanilla cream sandwiched between 2 chocolate cookies. They're like a big oreo, but SO much better. The cookies are moist and melt in your mouth. I will definitely be making these more often.

This cake was done for a 1-year-old's Sweet Shoppe birthday party! Her mom knew exactly what she wanted - we took a couple of cake designs that she'd seen and meshed them all together to make this super cute and fun cake! This is a 2-tier topsy turvy fondant cake with a cupcake on top that is made entirely of cake. The flavors were vanilla with vanilla and vanilla with raspberry. Tiger stripe cupcakes

These cupcakes were made for Idaho Falls High School's Class of 71 reunion. Their mascot is a tiger, so I did an orange fondant plaque painted with black tiger stripes. The other cupcakes had a white chocolate # 71 and black sprinkles. The event was at the Shiloh Inn in Idaho Falls. The cupcakes were displayed on my 6-tier stand and they added a fun and personalized touch to the event! The flavors were almond with raspberry and chocolate with orange.

This is one of my favorite wedding cakes that I've done so far! I was a little worried about how it would turn out because the cake had so much orange on it and I still wanted it to look like a wedding cake, but it turned out beautiful! It's fun and modern but also has the simple clean lines of a traditional wedding cake. It's a 4-tier square fondant cake. 2 tiers have orange stripes and the other 2 tiers have a piped swirl design. The bride provided the letters on the top that added the final touch.

Along with the cake I also catered the desserts for the Reception (pictures to come). We did Cream Puffs with cheesecake pastry cream & caramel drizzle, Pecan Pie Bars, Mini Cupcakes - almond with raspberry, chocolate with orange, and apple spice with vanilla, Parfait Shooters - white chocolate mousse with cherry filling and chocolate mousse with chocolate cookie crumbs. Sally McKinley with The Wedding Co. decorated the Reception and did an amazing job. There was also a cute candy buffet that she did alongside the desserts.

Tea Party

I catered a tea party this weekend and it was alot of fun and such a cute idea! We did some traditional tea party foods and then added some fun new things as well. Along with adults there were a few kids so we needed some items that were kid friendly as well. The menu was: Bacon & Spinach Quiche (not shown), Ham & Cheese Quiche (not shown), Mini Tea Sandwiches - Turkey Pesto, Cucumber Mint, and Peanut Butter & Jelly, Melon Mint Salad, Spinach Salad with Poppyseed Dressing, Pecan Pie Bars, Cream Puffs, and Mini Cupcakes.

This is also another buttercream cake with fondant accents. It was to celebrate one of my little sister's friend's sweet 16! So of course she helped me out and made the cute #16 for the top to surprise her. I love how this cake turned out, it's fun and girly without being the traditional girly colors. It has zebra print on the bottom tier and layered polka dots on the top. It's also decked out with edible glitter for some bling! The flavor was chocolate with raspberry.

This cake was made for "M's" fabulous 40th birthday party!!! The colors were pink, black and white. She wanted a fun and sophisticated cake with some bling! The large center flower is a gumpaste anemone with a large rhinestone in the center.

There were also gumpaste roses, daisies and cherry blossoms, and of course they were dusted with edible glitter! The cake flavors were white almond with raspberry and chocolate with raspberry.

This is similar to the sea themed cake that I have made before, but the Birthday Girl requested Spongebob & Patrick on the top! This is a buttercream cake that's spatula iced to give it the look of ocean waves. It has piped coral on the sides and shells, lobsters and crabs made of white chocolate. Spongebob & Patrick are made out of fondant. The flavor was chocolate with cookies & cream.

Finger Nail Polish Cake

I bet you can't guess what Susan does for a living?!? She is an amazing nail artist so it was only fitting to do a nail polish cake. This is a fondant cake. The bottom of the cake is hot pink and carved in the shape of the bottle and the top part of the handle is zebra print and made of rice krispies. It also had a bunch of cute accessories - nail file, toe separators, blush, eyeshadow & brush, and lipstick. It had lots of edible glitter all over! The flavor was german chocolate. This is the perfect cake for any girly-girl!

Catering - Art Museum of Eastern Idaho

This past week The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho had an opening reception for Ovanes Berberian's artwork. He is an amazing artist and I really love his style! My aunt asked me to cater the event and it was alot of fun and I was so pleased with the way it turned out. I wasn't able to get a picture of the entire table with all of the set-up, but I was able to get some individual pictures of some of the food.

The menu was:

mini cupcakes - chocolate with mint & white almond with raspberry, assorted veggies with a creamy blue cheese dip, marinated mozzarella and cherry tomato skewers, and phyllo cups with spicy cilantro crab salad.

My husband is a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan, so I decided that it would be perfect for his birthday cake this year. We had a small get together with friends and it was alot of fun! This cake was for a bridal shower - the colors were black, red & white. Different sized polka dots and flowers with edible glitter adorn this cake.

I also did these cupcakes to accompany the cake. They had little bows and flowers on top. The flavors were chocolate with orange, almond with raspberry, and chocolate with raspberry. A little 6-inch cake is perfect for a shower, either to cut and serve or to send home with the bride, mother-to-be, etc. My 6-tier cupcake stand is a perfect way to display these at any party! The top tier is 6-inches which is the perfect size to put the cake on top.

My friend had a Grand Opening for her new Salon Prestige Hair Design this past weekend and I catered the event! The Salon's colors are red, black and white so we did food and decorations in those colors. I forgot my camera so I ended up stealing these pics from her site.

I had different size vases with red, black and white candy in them. There were also 2 different drinks - a tequila sunrise (virgin of course) and a citrus dream punch.

I've been wanting a new dessert/cupcake stand for quite some time. My daughter broke the one my brother and I had made the other day, which gave me the perfect opportunity to finally give in and get one. And I'm so glad I did! This beauty is 6 tiers high and you can use anywhere from just 1 to all 6 of the plates. The smallest plate is 6" which is perfect for a little cake on top. I've also just found some other fun stands for displays and cakes and you can rent them for any occassion. They add that little extra special touch!

These cupcakes are topped with a flower that looks like rolled pieces of fabric. They're made out of modeling chocolate which tastes delicious.

The pink cupcake has a yellow rolled ribbon rose on top and the brown has a rolled green rosette on the top. they were embossed with a fabric roller to give them some texture.

These cupcakes have chocolate jewels on top painted with silver and gold.

This cake was made for an Idaho State Police Officer's Birthday. We decided that we wanted a bunch of things on the cake that have to do with his job.

There was an american flag draped over the side, handcuffs, crime scene tape, donuts, an ISP hat and a badge with his name on it. This is a buttercream cake - the flavors were chocolate with german chocolate filling and chocolate frosting and white almond with raspberry.

Patrick & Ashley Sullenger lost their precious baby girl this summer. She passed away after an accident where she fell into the canal. They chose to celebrate the date of Preslee's 2nd Birthday by giving back with the "Pay it Forward" project. I was asked by my friend Lindsey to make a cake and cupcakes for the event. This cake was for a dad/grandpa's 60th Birthday party! He's a true cowboy so we created this in his honor. The bottom looks like a pair of blue jeans with a number "60" belt buckle. The top is a red bandana with a hand-piped paisley design that's tied around front. There's a silver star badge with "Dad" on it along with a cute little horse. The flavors were white almond with raspberry and pumpkin chocolate chip with vanilla.

This cake was made as a surprise for a 16th Birthday. This gift box has a lid that is wrapped up with a bow and includes a nametag with "Ashlynn" the birthday girl's name on it. The flavor was chocolate with cookies and cream.

I love bows! They are so fun and sophisticated and I love how they look like they have texture just like a real fabric bow does.

Sports Themed Cake

This cake was for a 2-year little old boy who loves sports! It has inlayed stripes, stars, polka dots, rolled balls and different sports balls along with the letter "d" on the top. I tried something new with the stripes and inlayed them directly on top of the buttercream instead of covering it first and then adding them. It was a little hard to get all of the stripes the right size so that you couldn't see the buttercream through, but I really loved the technique and I LOVE how it turned out! The flavors were chocolate with cookies & cream and white almond with raspberry.

This cake was made for a girl's Sweet 16 Birthday party! The party colors were light blue, black, silver and white so we incorporated all of them into the cake. They wanted something simple, fun and sophisticated. It has stripes, piped flourishes, a black bow and the #16 on top in metallic silver. The cake flavors were chocolate with chocolate ganache and vanilla with chocolate ganache.

This is a 3-tier white fondant cake with navy ribbon around the bottom of each tier. There are large white gumpaste roses tipped with navy blue, light blue roses and lavender apple blossoms. The cake is chocolate with cookies and cream.

I LOVE this wedding cake! It's so simple but elegant, perfect for a fall wedding! The middle and top tier are separated by pillars and silk flowers are laying in between them and also on top of the cake. Chocolate satin ribbon is around all the tiers and also little piped swiss dots. The flavor was vanilla with vanilla buttercream. Polka Dot Wedding Cake

This isn't the greatest photo of this cake, but I still wanted to post a picture of it. This wedding cake was super fun and unique just like the bride! The cake was round-square-round and included polka dots and rolled ribbon roses. The flowers on the top and the sides were made by the bride and are actually made out of tissue paper. The flavor was pumpkin chocolate chip with vanilla buttercream.

Princess Castle Cake

Happy Birthday to my baby girl who just turned 3! She had a princess party and wanted a castle cake. This cake was a lot of fun and definitely challenging. It's a 2-tiered fondant cake with pillars, flowers, pink disco dust (edible glitter), pearl strands, and a happy birthday banner. It's fun and girly and perfect for my little princess! The flavors were chocolate cake with white chocolate ganache and fresh raspberries and vanilla cake with milk chocolate ganache and fresh raspberries.

I ordered some Tahitian and Madagascar vanilla beans this week and I am highly anticipating their arrival. Most vanilla extracts that you buy at the grocery store are either imitation or very low amounts of real vanilla (mostly alcohol). These little babies are packed with vanilla flavor and can be used in many baking items. I bought them to make a new vanilla bean buttercream, but I will also be making my favorite dessert, ice cream. I will post the ice cream recipe as soon as I make it! If you've never used real vanilla beans you really need to try it, there is a huge difference in flavor and they are definitely worth the extra cost.

Argyle and polka dots

I made this cake for my friend Kassie's little boy's birthday. The cake has argyle and polka dots along with his name. The flavor was chocolate with raspberry.

Lime green buttercream

This was my first buttercream wedding cake! I stressed and stressed over this, but I was really pleased with how it turned out. Its a 3-tier square wedding cake with swiss dots, swirls and ribbon. The flavor was lemon with raspberry filling.

Red Gum Paste Roses

This cake was made for a friend's wedding this weekend. I had to deliver the cake to Island Park which was a little nerve racking. The roses on the top are made out of gum paste. The cake was white almond with raspberry and lemon with raspberry.

I made this cake for my little sister Shayla's Birthday. The only description that she gave me was "bright colors", so this is what I came up with. I tried a new technique called "quilling", (the flowers and butterfly) it was time consuming but fun and I really enjoyed doing it! I also used pink "disco dust" or edible glitter on the tip swirls on top of the cake and it was a cute effect. The cake was citrus dream with citrus fruit filling and white almond with raspberry.

I love making gum paste flowers! This week I worked on my carnations. I wasn't a huge fan of these flowers before, but have fallen in love with them. They have many delicate layers of petals and I love their organic feel. I painted a darker shade of the yellow on the outside of each petal and it really makes them pop!

With some time off this week I decided to try out some new recipes. This cake is called "Coco Loco" It's a dark chocolate coconut cake, filled with chocolate fudge and vanilla bean buttercream. I think this one will definitely be added to my recipe book!

This celadon green and light pink cake is perfect for spring. I've been brushing up on my bow-making skills and I was really pleased at how this one turned out!

This is my Final Cake for my Advance Cake Decorating class. It was shown in the Bridal Show on campus today along with the cake with the gum paste flowers that I posted earlier. This cake was a lot of fun, but also challenging. The middle tier was 6" tall and I hand-painted the plaid design on it, which took a long time. The dimensions of the tiers didn't turn out how I wanted, but overall I was pretty happy with it. The bottom tier has handmade gum paste flowers and the top has real daisies. This was a brown sugar spice cake with penuche filling (kind of like caramel).

This cake was made for my Advanced Cake Decorating midterm. I'd never made gumpaste flowers before, so I decided to take on the challenge. These flowers look real and they are completely edible. They were definitely very time consuming, but well worth it. This cake will be displayed at the BYU-I Bridal Show in March!
